A collection of distributed intelligent machines that
share data and information through interconnected lines of communications is
called computer network. computer network is used for sharing information,
sharing hardware resources, centralized control, backup of data etc.
The Media though which data can be transmitted from one location to another
with the help of wore is called guided media. examples Twisted Pair Cable,
co-axial cable and fiber optic Cable etc.
Advantage
It allows the sharing the resource like disk
storage, Printer, Scanner, Modem though internet etc.
It allows sharing the information and data held
in the disk drive accessed by all users in the network.
It allows electronic mail to be sent between
users.
It allows the connection of different types of
computer which can communicate with each other.
Disadvantage
User become dependent on them, If the network
server fails then many user will be unable to run application in the
network.
If the network stop operating then it may not be
possible to access various hardware and software resources.
It is more difficult to make system secured from
hackers.
As traffic increase in the network the
performance is decrease unless it is properly design.
